CLOTH
For
our second exhibition, I wanted to use a most common piece
of textile as the theme, and explore the many connections
it brings.
I
do not remember how I thought of handkerchiefs back in November
2004. But once I had the idea I started my own study project.
I asked everybody around me if they have handkerchiefs,
looked for books, and searched the internet. I met collectors,
handkerchief users. Found antiques, heard stories, found
articles and poems, found games and magic, identified textile
techniques and inspired me to try to design new handkerchiefs.
During the 3 month exhibition, we attracted a wide audience,
a few inspired visitors brought in their own collection
to show us and allowed us to display them.
On
display:
Antique Chinese handkerchiefs
Ethnic Chinese handkerchiefs
Collectable handkerchiefs from the last century with interesting
prints and textile techniques and theme
Selected items from collectors
Items made from handkerchiefs
Books on Handkerchief
An installation of folded handkerchiefs
