THE
COSTUME SQUAD LTD
The Costume Squad was established in 1990 as a costume studio/workshop
serving the local entertaining business. Between 1990 to
1998, the workshop with 8 staff has produced costumes for
over 200 film productions, also pop-concerts, commercials
and various promotions.
In 1993, the contribution of costume designers to the film
industry was finally recognized by the local industry with
the introduction of an Award for Best Costume and Makeup
Design to the Annual Hong Kong Film Awards. The Costume
Squad has worked on costumes for 26 of the 35 nominated
films during the period of 1993-98, and served all the award-winning
films at different levels of involvement.
Though the credit and award goes to the designer, The Costume
Squad has contributed in providing researched material,
technique and workmanship, translating ideas to finished
costumes.
The awarded films are:
1992
Swordsman II, directed by Tsui Hark
1993 The Bride with White Hair, directed by Ronny Yu
1994 Ashes of Time, directed by Wong Kai Wai
1995 The Phantom Lover, directed by Ronny Yu
1996 Comrades, Almost a Love Story, directed by Peter Chan
1997 The Soong Sisters, directed by Mable Cheung
1998 The Storm Riders, directed by Andrew Lau
By
the end of the last century, with the local film industry
shrinking drastically, the company redirected its energy
to serving a wider clientele,
taking on various projects connected to textile, costume
and fashion.
